Harm Reduction 101

Harm Reduction Education on Demand

When FLHRC was awarded a grant from Elton John AIDS Foundation they put us trough a rigorous due-diligence process to ensure our organizational culture and practices adhered to the highest standards.  We weren’t exactly prepared and getting policies and procedures together by the deadline was a stress we didn’t want to ever go through again.  In the end we were grateful for having to go through it and we learned a lot about what foundations were looking for in the organizations they fund.

In 2022 FLHRC was awarded a grant to create a tool-kit of policies and procedures geared towards Harm Reduction organizations.  We had the basics, but knew what we had didn’t always align with Harm Reduction practices and principles.  With the funds we contracted with a diverse group of people and organizations across the Southern US.  We scoured each policy and procedure from Anti-Bullying to Fiscal Management.  We made sure to include language supportive of the lives and experiences of People Who Use Drugs.  We extended anti-discrimination to include involvement with the carceral system, a history of Sex Work, and the rights of self-determination.  The process was long and arduous and we think we created a great tool-kit.
